Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) publishes advertisements every year for admission to its full time and part time Ph.D programmes in Engineering & Technology, Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management etc. The admission requires a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade. Sit and written entrance examination is also mandatory for a candidate, which comprises two papers: common ability test and subject ability test which focuses on the fundamental concept of a specific subject of a candidate. For candidates who are shortlisted, there is an interview while others recommended by the departmental selection committee to gain admission.

The full-time candidates get fellowships selected in the company. The University has a very good infrastructure and research facilities such as central instrumentation facility, Central library, computational facilities, prototypinglabs etc to support research activities. The last level of the selection process considers the Master’s performance of the candidates, entrance test, their skills in interviews, and their ability to undertake research. It has fixed number of seats and it is very hard to get into the school.
