Foreign Medical Graduates Examination

The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is an examination that has been set by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in the context of medical doctors who wish to practice in India. To practice medicine in India, all the Indian citizens and overseas citizens of India having primary medical qualification from medical colleges or universities of India or any country other than India are required to pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). It is taken twice per year in June and December to test the medical competencies and the amount of knowledge possessed by the candidates at the MBBS course level in India. 

The FMGE has one paper consisting of three hundred multiple choice questions and questions under various sections including surgery, obstetrics & gyro, preventive & social medicine, medicine, pediatrics & forensic medicine. The total duration of the exam time is 4.5 hours. The FMGE examination is conducted twice in a year, in June and December and the result is announced within a month from the date of examination on NBE’s official website. The FMGE 2024 examination will probably be conducted twice a year in June and December of 2023. In order to pass the FMGE exam, candidates must obtain an aggregate score of 50% of the total marks which are 300. For further details, the candidate can begin their medical practice in India after the completion of the 12 months rotatory internship from an affiliated hospital.

How to Apply for FMGE Exam 2024?

1. Eligibility Check

- Ensure that you satisfy the set eligibility criteria outlined by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). Thus, you have to possess an MBBS degree from a foreign institute recognized by the MCI.

2. Registration

- To access the NBE Forex portal, connect your computer to the internet and visit the official NBE website to sign up for an account. Once you have provided all the information that the website requires please register to be issued with login details.

3. Application Form

- Prospective candidates must ensure they register for their FMGE application form before the deadline. Submit all documents and details that may be required in relation to the case.

4. Upload Documents 

- As per the guidelines, upload the scanned copy of your passport along with the MBBS degree and the certificate of internship completion and other relevant documents.

5. Pay Exam Fee

- You can pay the exam fee online through your Credit Card, Debit Card or through Net Banking. A payment receipt can be used in the future in case it will be needed.

6. Download Admit Card

- Before FMGE, get your admit card from NBE once they upload it online for the candidates.

7. Appear for Exam

- At last, take and clear the FMGE theory & practical examination to obtain the provisional or permanent registration with Medical Council of India.
