JEE Main Overview 2024 FAQs

JEE Main is the national-level engineering entrance examination conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.Tech/B.E./B.Arch) in NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutes across India.

The JEE Main exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

A candidate can appear for the JEE Main exam a maximum of three times in their lifetime, either in consecutive years or with a gap.

JEE Main is conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

The JEE Main exam tests a candidate's knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

For each correct answer, 4 marks are awarded, while for each incorrect answer, 1 mark is deducted (negative marking). Unattempted questions are not marked.

The JEE Main rank is calculated based on the candidate's best score from either of the two sessions (if they appear in both). The rank is calculated based on the total marks obtained in the exam.

Candidates must have passed their 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Candidates need to fill out the online application form available on the NTA website (nta.ac.in) during the specified application window and pay the required application fee.
