Pharmacy is a branch of medicine that focuses on the management, distribution, and appropriate use of medications. In order to become a pharmacist in India, one is required to pursue a Bachelors degree course in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) of 4 years, after which he/ she has to do a course in Masters in Pharmacy (M. Pharm) of 2 years. Some of the closely related undergraduate courses are Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacy Practice. Apart from that, the postgraduate students can choose a branch of inter related disciplines such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance etc. 

Requirements for admission into a B. Pharm program include: The candidate should have passed 10 + 2 or equivalent examination with subjects in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/mathematics. For M.Pharm, the candidate should have passed B.Pharm with minimum 55% of total marks in B.Pharm from any University recognized by the University Grants Commission. The documents needed for admission are marks sheets of 10th and 12th showing subjects studied and marks scored, B. Pharm degree certificate, transfer certificate from the previous institution, migration certificate and if there was any break period, then a gap certificate.

3. MAH-B.Pharm-CET – This is an examination conducted by the Government of Maharashtra for admission into BPharm courses offered by faculties within the state.  

4. OJEE Odisha Joint Entrance Examination, for the purpose of admitting students to BPharm courses in government as well as private colleges in Odisha.

5. KCET – Karnataka Common Entrance Test for admission to BPharm, colleges in Karnataka.  

6. GUJCET: This is the entrance examination conducted to take admission in degree pharma course in the various Universities in Gujarat state.

Pharmacy Courses Eligibility Criteria in India 

1. The candidate should have completed his / her 10+2 or equivalent examination with Science stream having Physics, Chemistry Biology / Mathematics as subjects.

2. Minimum aggregate marks needed range from 40-50 percent depending on institute type as well as course stream.

3. For BPharm course, students should have studied English as one of the subjects in their 10 + 2.

4. Apart from the general entrance exams some other institutes also conduct their own entrance tests for the selection of the candidates. 

5. Talking about the years of study in pharmacy courses, there is no restriction for the number of years a person can enroll for the course.
