- University of Calcutta conducts its own entrance tests for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These are called CUET and CUCET respectively. Performance in these exams is the primary criteria for admission.
- For some programs, admissions are based on merit in the last qualifying exam (class 12th scores for undergraduate, graduation scores for postgraduate programs).
- There is a centralized online application process for admissions. Students have to register and apply on the university's portal www.caluniv.ac.in.
- Applications are invited usually in the months of May-June each year and the entrance tests are held in June.
- Detailed application forms are issued only to candidates whose names appear in the merit lists prepared on the basis of the entrance test scores.
- There is a separate application and admission process for foreign students and NRIs.
- Seat allocations and admissions are conducted through several rounds of counseling. Students have to physically attend the counseling sessions as per their merit rank and availability of seats.
