Assam University is a central University established in the year 1994 located in Silchar of the state Assam. It has been set up in 1994 and is approved by the University Grant Commission (UGC) & is accredited with the grade ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the year 2016. According to NIRF Ranking System 2023 for Indian Universities, the Assam University was ranked at 101-150 band. As a premier university of the country, the university provides a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in humanities, social sciences, sciences, technology and professional study.

The university teaches courses such as BA, BSC, BCOM, MA, MSC, MCOM, MTECH, MBA, and PhD in English, Economics, Education, History, Political Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Social Work, Business Administration and so on. Key tests comprised of terminal tests and yearly tests and TDC/HS entry tests for admission into the undergraduate degree programs. Admission is in May and may be done online or through sending a form to the school. Admission is done to postgraduate and research programs, which is through entrance exams. The AAS audition schedules are normally in June while the last date for submission of the application forms is usually in July.

Place and internships, an important requirement for students, are provided by the placement and internship assistance cell of Assam University in every year. A number of reputed companies like Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank come to the campus for the placement of their employees. The pay scale is central at 3-5 LPA; the maximum pay scale recorded is 16 LPA. The placement record of the college over several years has been satisfactory, which is approximately 60-70 percent. Major sectors available for job seekers are IT, Banking and Financial Sectors, Education Sector, Marketing and Analytics. A significant number of students also get absorbed for further studies in Indian as well as foreign universities after completing their B.A/ B.Sc/ B.Com from the Assam University.

Some of the big companies that frequently visit the campus for the recruitment of the candidates are TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and many more. Regarding the salary packages, the maximum salary offered in the year 2021 was Rs 12,00,000 per annum by a financial service sector company. The starting pay scale for a talented professional varies between Rs. 4-6 lakhs per annum. The college has released that about 60-65% of the students who applied for placements through campus are now placed. The placement ratio is comparatively higher in the case of such courses like MBA and MCA etc. Some of these are: Pre placement offers and internships for students have been increasing gradually in the recent years due to good placement linkages with industries of the country.
