In India, The Certificate in Library and Information Science is a 6-month long program of library management that aims at providing basic training of library science. This could be a part-time or the distance learning course offered by a number of universities and institutes throughout India.
Students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts related to librarianship, library classification tools such as DDC, CC, cataloging system and tools, e.g. AACR2 & TACR2, reference sources, library automation, basics of IT and internet, library services and routines, collection management of libraries, and information sources and services. The candidates should have completed 10+2 or equivalent as the minimum requirement for admission. 1. 12th passed from any board which any of the recognized boards of education. Those who appeared to have passed 10+2 examinations may also submit their applications.
2. Those who are interested in attending the course do not need to worry about their age. A great number of the candidates who are of any age can take the certificate course.
3. The minimum educational required is SSC or equivalent from any of the recognized boards. Technical skills would be the main factor for qualifying for the role. Higher degree of education is not required.
4. The two options, face-to-face and online courses, are also being offered by this course. As the students get to choose, it increases self-determination and motivation.
5. Besides, the course is also available for working professionals via distance learning allowing them to continue their work if they so choose.
