A B.Optom is a 4-year undergraduate degree in the field of optometry as a program that allows the student to choose optometry as their field of study. Optometry is a medical profession that deals with  check up, diagnosis, treatment and management of eyes and  allied organs diseases and disorders. 

Optometry BSc focuses on optics, physiology, anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, binocular vision, contact lenses, low vision aids, and community eye health. Students will be able to describe various eye diseases, the reasons of the illness, ways it presents itself and its controlling mechanism. They were educated for performing both the full eye check-up, giving and prescribing the right glasses and contact lenses. They could also detect any unusual conditions and give some vision therapy observations.

Bachelor of Optometry [B.Optom] Admission Process

The Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) is a four-year undergraduate program that prepares students to become optometrists.

3 Fill out the online application form and submit all required documents.
4 Pay the application fee.
5 Wait for the shortlisting of candidates.
6 Attend counseling and get a seat allotted.

Bachelor of Optometry [B.Optom] Eligibility

1. 12th or equivalent in the science stream from one of the recognized boards; Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with English as main subjects. Maths can be either optional or with provisions.

2. 50-60% is the minimum aggregate marks considered by most of the colleges whereas entrance exam is the gateway to study in particular institute. Many institutes could lower the boundary of 5 percent marks barrier for student from reserved category.

3. You need to qualify an entrance exam that weighs according to the colleges/universities you are applying to. It may be JEE Main, NEET, AIIMS, or some state level exam. 

4. The least age for most of the admissions would be 17 years as on the last day of December of submission year. Could be another factor taken into account.

5. Medical certificate which should come with mentioned eyesight quality, no squint, color blindness etc. is required. 

6. A clear interview round is expected if there are any norms related to that.

7. Most of the institutions prefer you have copied these subjects if you have studied group PCB in 12th instead of Mathematics.

Bachelor of Optometry [B.Optom] Entrance Exams

NEET: National Eligbility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical and dental courses at the undergraduate level in India, including some B.Optom programs.

AIIMS: B.Optom is an undergraduate program offered in All India Institute of Medical Sciences Entrance Exam.

JIPMER: The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research conducts entrance exams for the B.Optom program.

CET: Common Entrance Tests being conducted by states and universities for B.Optom admission.

COMEDK: The Karnataka Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges conducts entrance test for B.Optom in member institutions.

KEAM: In the Kerala Engineering, Architecture, Medical Entrance Exam, B.Optom is grouped under the medical course.
