Separated from the large universities in the country the Indian Maritime University (IMU) is established by the government of India in 2008 as a specialized university to provide quality maritime education and training. Our main office located in Chennai, IMU has campuses as well as affiliated institutions spread throughout India. It features bachelor and master programs in the following areas, such as marine engineering, nautical sciences, naval architecture, port management, and shipping management. The courses that we have are BTech Marine Engineering for 4 years and the 3-year BSc Nautical Sciences. The BTech program is aimed at providing the design, construction and maintenance of marine vehicles, structures and shipboard training that will be practiced. Among the topics included in the BSc Nautical Science syllabus are navigation, cargo handling, meteorology, and leadership training, which constitute a typical professional seafarer's routine life. This year, for the 2024 batch admission and the IMU-CET will be on the 13th of May, i.e. 2023, with the application process for the same having begun from the 1st of March 2023. The minimum entry level that is required to be accepted in the program is to pass class 12 in science stream with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects along with having certain physical fitness standards.

Indian Maritime University Eligibility Criteria 2024

- BTech Marine Engineering: 12th passed with PCM score of 60% marks (55% for SC/ ST) and JEE Main qualified.

- BSc Nautical Science: 12th with physic, chemistry and mathematics with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST)

- DNS: BSc in Nautical Science from IMU or equivalent CGPA 2.00 or more.

- MBA Port and Shipping Management: A Bachelor's degree from any field with a CGPA of at least 50% (or 45% for SC/ST/OBC).

- MTech Marine Engineering and Management: BTech - Marine/Naval Architecture, 50% Marks 

- PhD: Master's degree in the field of concern, and a minimum score of 55% (50% for SC/ST/OBC).

Indian Maritime University Admission Process 2024

1. Check Eligibility

In order to be eligible for IMU program, a candidate must fulfill the age limit, educational status, percentage, etc set by IMU in eligibility criteria. This is the first stepping stone.

2. Apply Online

Prospective students who are fit the requirement to be enrolled will be required to apply via the online admissions portal of the IMU before the set application deadline that will avail them the ability to pursue their desired course. They also have required documents which need to be uploaded.

3. Entrance Exam 

In case of some programs like Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture, it is obligatory for candidates to be at CET at the IMU. 6A datum will be published on the page.

4. Counselling Process

By using entrance scores and merit lists, short-listed candidates must then secure an appointment for interview where documents are vigorously and thoroughly verified. Seat is assigned by the idea of merit, preferences and others.

5. Admission Confirmation

Lastly for candidates who have been given the slot will pay their admission/counselling fee within the indicated date to securing their admission and saving their seat.
