PhD in Chemistry 2024: Admission Process, Eligibility, Entrance Exams

3 Years
Degree
Doctorate/M.Phil
Full Time

A Ph.D. in Chemistry is a doctoral program where learners concentrate on research and various branches of chemistry. The normal period of completion for a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry degree is between four and six years. The first 2 years incorporate topics such as Organic Chemistry,Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry and elective choices. They also participate in research rotations, select a mentor, and start early investigations during this time as well. The following 2-4 years are devoted to the further research in the student’s area of chemistry and writing and defense of an innovative and substantive dissertation in the student’s subdiscipline.

The most widely accepted entrance exams for admission into Ph.D. Chemistry programs are: Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) which evaluates ability in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing; Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE); Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST); Joint Admission Test (JAM); and course specific examinations like chemistry examinations conducted by different institutes that the student is applying for where a student is tested on his/her ability to solve chemistry problems as well as his/her understanding of basic chemistry principles. It is important to note that to get accepted in good institutions, one should have high scores in these exams and good academic grades.
