A PhD in Dental Sciences is a real doctoral research postgraduate program in the field of dentistry that falls under the jurisdiction of dental colleges and universities in India. The main prerequisites are the successful completion of a master’s degree in any dental specialized sector with a minimum aggregated score of 55%. 

The PhD program includes advanced coursework on oral pathology, advanced oral microbiology, clinical research, and biostatistics; and then a doctoral research project. Ph.D. (Dental Sciences) Eligibility

1. MDS/MDS Equivalent Degree

Specialization wise candidates must have MDS degree or an equivalent degree which in turn should be recognized by the Dental Council of India as a prerequisite.

2. Minimum 55% Marks 

Minimum entry requirements to be 55% aggregate or equivalent grade in the MDS degree examination for applicants. General category candidates are granted relaxation up to 5% while the reserved category candidates are eligible for higher relaxation up to 5%.

3. DCI Registration 

Candidates who have successfully passed the internship and who have valid Dental Council of India (DCI) registration certification are qualified for applying. 

4. Entrance Test

In many academic institutions and universities where the PhD Dental Science program is offered many of them employ an aptitude test which is then followed by an interview for the purpose of screening candidates for admission. The entrance exam is must be passed out.

5. Research Proposal

Candidates must include a research proposal together with the study proposal, in order to be considered for a PhD program. In my doctoral dissertation I have described the research topic that is new and also there is the chance that it can be assessed during my doctoral studies.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) MDS Entrance Exam: Cycle over the areas like Dental Materials, Oral Surgery, Periodontology, and so on.

Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGI) MDS Entrance Exam: Assesses if the students have grasped the ideas in the area of oral medicine, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and community dentistry.

Dental Admission Test (DAT): SC assesses candidates in mathematics, perceptual ability, as well as science and reading comprehension skills.
