FPM is an acronym for Fellow Programme in Management – a course that is designed at the doctoral level in many of the management institutes in India. It is designed for the learners who have already built their career and those students who intend to study management at postgraduate level and further enhance their career in teaching and research. The FPM is a full-time residential programme that spans for 4-5 years as mentioned earlier. This includes taking semester long classes in methods of analysis, management theoretical systems, and a specialization area; end-of-semester examinations; and the writing of a doctoral dissertation under the direction of faculty members.
The standard tests accepted for entry into FPM programmes are CAT, GMAT, GATE and UGC NET. There are also some institutes that offer admission to the candidates on the basis of Interview and Research Proposal alongwith the condition of having good master’s degree, research or work experience in lieu of entrance examination scores. The process of selection generally involves scrutiny of the applications through adherence to the eligibility standards as deemed by the institute besides presenting a research proposal and personal interviews to determine the ability and enthusiasm of the candidates for doctoral research.
