The Diploma in Music is a 1-2 year diploma program that covers every aspect of music and helps the students all over India in mastering the art of music. The course length fluctuates based on the focus area the student wants to address- vocal/ instrumental or dance. For application, the overriding criterion is that an aspirant must have passed the exam of 10+2 from any stream.

The program curriculum is having both of the theory and practical aspects of music. Students take courses in, topics of such as history, aesthetics, music theory, classical traditions, as well as practical subjects including voice training, and singing, instruments like tabla, harmonium, etc.They also participate in stage enactment. 1. 10+2  pass in any stream of board that is being recognized. The same counts for students who passed 10th grade and their music education background is strong.

2. The applicants should have a lecture in music theory and read the music notations. It is good to mention that the call for it would also include some practical experience in playing an instrument. 

3. For the most part, the age limit depends on the country, institution, and program. In addition to school graduates, working people including employees and self-employed individuals are also the audiences for these courses. 

4. Some schools give new-comers exams to check if they are naturally musically inclined. Some colleges take in students depending purely on their 10+2 and academic results, whereas others require students to go through extensive interviews. 

5. Mostly the participant is required to use one or only two Indian musical instruments. Vocal work and dance rehearsals also the reason of some choices.

Diploma in Music Entrance Exams

JMI Entrance Exam (Diploma in Music): Held by Jamia Millia Islamia, examinations will judge candidates on music theory, practical skills, and audition performance.

BHU PET (Music): The syllabus of Banaras Hindu University's University's Postgraduate Entrance Test has sections on music history, theory and performance.

DUET (Diploma in Music): Delhi University entrance exam consist of theory, practical skills and audition test for admission to its diploma program in music.
