BUMS is an undergraduate program in Unani medicine and surgery with a five-and-half-year degree. It won't be complete without 4.5 years academic study and a year of internship. The BUMS curricula are by and large the same as those of the MBBS with the introduction of subjects like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, forensic medicine, community medicine and Principles and practices of Unani medicine and surgery to them.
Students are taught the constitutive theoretical and practical aspects of the Unani medical systems like the preventive and health promoting methods, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including the regimental therapies which the students learn in practice and theory. The class will focus on management of different disease cases through using Natural Unani principles underpinnings. Practical training includes such elements as hospital work, patients’ bedsides, as well as clinics.
1. Eligibility
- Or, we may have 10+2 or other equivalent examination having Physics, Chemistry and Biology as our major subjects.
- Bare minimum of 50% aggregate marks (40% for category reservation).
2. Entrance Exams
- National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) embodies the national level test taken to have BUMS admissions.
- In addition to national entrance exams, some states themselves do some exams for admissions too.
3. Counseling Process
- For the applicants to undergo the next level in the admission process, which is the counseling, they have to write and pass the qualifying exam.
- Seat allocation is based on the merit whose candidates are ranking in the first order and on those who have filled their preferences at the time of application in the second order of preference.
- The assessment could also involve discretionary rounds of counseling if the seats remain unfilled.
4. Documents Required
- The certificates and mark sheets of the classes provided by the system are of grade 10 and grade 12.
- A hall ticket for entrance exam.
- Admission Letter/Rank/Result of entrer exam.
- Transfer certificate and migration certificate are two of the most important papers that an individual must carry while traveling overseas.
- Medical fitness certificate
- Backfilling the caste certificate (for reserved categories)
5. Alternatively, the university should reduce fees and lengthen courses.
- Colorado course is 5.5 years long and this includes 1 year of practical training.
- For both, private and government institutes, the tuition fees cost anywhere between INR 10,000 to INR 5,00,000.
6. Syllabus
- Syllabus will consist mainly of the Unani Medicine teachings such as anatomy, physiology, preventive medicine ect.
1. 10+2 Science or equivalent degree with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English: All aspirants should pass their 10+2, or the equivalent examination from a Science Stream comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
2. 50% Aggregate Marks: Students should have to get passed in minimum 50 marks out of their 10+2 Science or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects to able to get selected. Some colleges may have higher cut-off marks, so ensure that you fulfill the specified enrollment criteria of the individual colleges.
3. Aptitude Test: Owing to this fact, most of the institutions conduct their own admission test in an attempt to enroll the most suitable candidates for the curriculum of Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery. Students experience stiff competition to beat the aptitude test, in hope of gaining a seat in college.
4. Age Limit: Many colleges have age limit ranging 25-30 years which is another criteria of BUMS admission Government norms are made for people in the upper age category along with the reserved categories.
NEET: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has become integral to BUMS candidates' eligibility for enrolment in it, testing applicants on physics, chemistry, biology, and English.
State-level Exams: Some states use their entrance examination for BUMS admission, which includes the general knowledge of the field of Unani medicine and surgery.
