In general, a PhD in Veterinary Science is obtained over three to five years of full-time study. The first 2 years emphasize on the course work which serves as an additional form of knowledge related to pathology, epidemiology, microbiology, parasitology, toxicology, and others. Students enroll in required core courses on research techniques, statistics, and scientific writing. In addition, they take courses to support their interests and preparation for the PhD entrance exam.
In the second and third year, students gain a supervisor and begin their specialization training in clinical science, basic science, population medicine, or pathobiology. They formulate and argue in favor of a research proposal, after which they spend about 2-3 years conducting original research and analysis. PhD candidates deliver their discoveries at scientific meetings; they also publish in peer-reviewed journals.

1. Get a bachelor's degree, more often in science-focused disciplines, like biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc. carry out your research from your undergrad is a good thing.
2. Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and put up the charts on the verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing sections.
3. Accumulate first-hand knowledge of the veterinary field by helping out with volunteer work or internship program; you can also work as a vet tech, participate in research projects with your professors, etc. All these things will be very helpful in terms of your submission.
4. Discover veterinary doctoral programs which are in line with your research goals and also satisfy the other wanted criteria (location, expenses, structure of program etc.). Contact professors in advance via mail to collect information to apply.
5. Develop an application - transcripts, GRE scores, curriculum vitae/resume, personal statement, three letters of recommendation, and whatever other documents are prescribed by graduate programs.
6. Ensure that you submit your applications as soon as possible but do not miss the posted deadlines of the PhD programs that are of interest to you. The application deadlines for the fall next year program normally fall at the beginning of autumn or early winter.
