PhD in Urban Planning is a doctoral program for 3 years full-time, which consists of the advanced trainings of the urban planning theory and methods, tools and techniques. The curriculum will consist of core courses such as urban economics, spatial analysis, land use planning, transport planning, urban ecology, housing systems, and regional planning. Students will be able to learn the skill-specific subject areas which cover areas like environmental planning, urban design, geographic information systems, infrastructure planning, disaster management, and urban policy. 

The program has a strong empirical essence— students are supposed to make their own research and defend their thesis in front of the Committee to graduate. In the next 3 years, the students will be able to go through a process of research methodologies, statistical analysis, and planning approaches that help them to inspect and thrive upon the complex urban problems. Application of classroom academic theory with a site visit to urban development sites, projects and planning agencies will be eye-opening and more practical. 

PhD Urban Planning Admission 2024

1. Choose universities and programs that have research activities. Search out for those programs that adequately articulate your research interests and your future career developmental plans. Contact the teacher if there are any questions or try to find the answers in advance.

2. Prepare for and take appropriate standardized tests. Nearly all applications demand one of them, though a GMAT or LSAT may also be acceptable. Sharp test scores are not enough. it is also advisable to take tests that you are more likely to score higher.

3. Collecting letters of recommendation. Please, provide 3 academic or vocational references and people who might speak to take your abilities and your potential as a graduate student and researcher. Allow for a full month (1 month).

8. Apply for the external fellowships/scholarships out of competition. For example, be aware of relevant grants applications deadline, as this may fall before school application deadlines. They can showcase your commitment and identify how you propose to raise funds or make your program more competitive..

9. Either go to the schools or Interview students if it’s possible. Campus visit facilities strike you with the pictures of professors and students and department culture in mind.
