The MArch Urban Design is a 2-year full-time postgraduate program of studies that specifically prepares students for urban planning, designing and managing urban environments.  The program implementation was made early 2000s former India in direction of city development rapid growth and shortage of skills in urban design field. Among the first ones to lend a starting hand to CA are CEPT University, School of Planning and Architecture, and Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture.

Over a course of approximately 20 years, the curriculum has been developed to contain modules on subjects such as ecology in an urban setup, transportation network, urban sociology, geographic information system, sustainable development, real estate and urban conservation. The focused design studios, regular site visits, and dissertation projects are among the training tools.

MArch Urban Design Admission 2024

Educational Qualifications: The holder of bachelor's degree in Architecture from a recognized University or Institution. While some programs may allow applicants to be considered with other qualifications or employment experience, others may not have this policy.

Portfolio Submission
: A portfolio is often one of the submission requirements, which usually consists of projects during urban design, planning, and architecture. The portfolio needs to show the candidates artistic flair and designers sophisticated thinking abilities.

Entrance Examination
(if applicable): Some institutions may use entrance exams to evaluate one's skill level and grade the aptitude of architecture and design. The test could have such components as design aptitude and drawing tests, or it may be purely written.

Letter of Intent
: Prospective students may be asked to submit a statement of purpose or a selection letter that will describe their motivation to have an MArch in urban design, professional goals, and those areas that seem competitive to urban design and architecture.

Letters of Recommendation: Hiring authorities might need letters of reference from college teachers, employers, or personalities who are intimately conversant with the applicant’s academic/working life and chances of accomplishment in the urban planning field.

English Language Proficiency
(if applicable): English language proficiency is another often imposed requirement. International students or people from non-English speaking countries have to pass standardised tests of English, like the TOEFL or IELTS.

MArch Urban Design Course Eligibility 2024

1. Baccalaureate in architecture, or in a related field: urban planning, landscape architecture, and interior design. Candidates without the relevant architecture background may be required to take additional pre-degree programs.

2. The minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher for undergraduate.

3. Degree or professional portfolio of design work of the candidate. This demonstrates the applicant's innovative and tech-savviness. 

4. Lining up your purpose statement including your reasons for interest in urban design and how that program fits into your academic and professional life plan.

5. Student with the experience of working in the field of architecture/design can receive letters of recommendation from their undergraduate professors/employers, as well as those that prove the applicant’s skills, achievements, and future potential. 

6. With others, the applicants are often given the opportunity to meet the instructors through an interview.

7. In others situation all students may have to show evidence of language mastery (TOEFL scores, IELTS scores, etc)

Master of Architecture [M.Arch.] (Urban Design) Entrance Exams

GRE: The Graduate Record Examination tests your verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and writing skills suitable for MArch Urban Design program's admission units.

Portfolio Review: Given the fact that most of the institutions require applicants to send in a portfolio that consists of their design projects, with the majority of them being on urban design and planning areas of work,

Course Description
Urban Design Studio The Urban Design Studio is a core component of most M.Arch. (Urban Design) programs. In the Urban Design Studio, students will work on real-world urban design projects under the supervision of experienced faculty members.
Urban Design Theory and Practice This course introduces students to the principles and practices of urban design. Students will learn about the different types of urban design projects, the urban design process, and the role of urban designers in shaping cities.
Site Planning and Design This course covers the principles and practices of site planning and design. Students will learn how to analyze site conditions, develop site plans, and select appropriate materials and construction methods.
Transportation Planning This course covers the principles and practices of transportation planning. Students will learn how to plan for different modes of transportation, including roads, highways, public transportation, and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.
Environmental Planning This course covers the principles and practices of environmental planning. Students will learn how to assess environmental impacts and develop plans to protect and conserve the environment.
Urban Design History and Theory This course surveys the history and theory of urban design from ancient times to the present day. Students will learn about the major movements and styles in urban design, as well as the key figures who have shaped the profession.
