The BSC in Optometry lasts for 4 years and it is an undergraduate science degree that offers the general study of optical and care of vision. Students attend classes where such topics as the optics, oculus anatomy and physiology, diseases of the eye, contact lenses, low vision aids, orthopics, and community eye health are studied.

Course program involves in-class lectures as well as laboratorial practicals and clinical practice. The first three academic years consist of the basic science courses in subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and optometry. Those courses are related to the ocular anatomy, vision, optometric instruments, and geometrical and visual optics. The Bachelor of Science in Optometry (B.Sc Optometry) is a four-year undergraduate program that prepares students to become optometrists.

Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Optometry) Eligibility

1. The candidate should not have been disqualified from class 12/equivalent final exam studying subjects of physics, chemistry, biology/maths, which were taken together with minimum 50% cumulative marks. 

2. The election candidate should have been English among the subjects they studied in the senior certificate level. To be able to fathom the technical subject students need to know English.

3. A minimum age of 17 years on Dec 31st of the admission year is set as the minimum age for the applicant. The optometry programs have no maximum age limits here. 

4. For the admission, the candidate has to pass the entrance test, which is conducted by the university or institution level or the state or national level, because seats are very limited. 

5. The disabled candidates among us are granted permission to attend based on the rules and regulations enforced by the regulatory committees. Minimum vision standards for certain task may be imposed.

Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Optometry) Entrance Exams

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test): Compulsory for applying to the medical schools with the optometry disciplines. It examines the students' understanding of physics, chemistry and biology subjects.

AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) Entrance Exam: Assesses the aptitude of entrants in Physics, Chemistry, Biology excluding General Knowledge for entrance to Optometry schools at AIIMS-affiliated institutions.

JIPMER Entrance Exam: Judges the mastery level of candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English for admitting them into the course of Optometry at JIPMER and its affiliate colleges.

State-Level Entrance Exams: Organized by individual states as in Karnataka CET for the purpose of filling vacancies in Optometry programs within the state. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics tests are usually administered at these exams.
