The BSC in Optometry lasts for 4 years and it is an undergraduate science degree that offers the general study of optical and care of vision. Students attend classes where such topics as the optics, oculus anatomy and physiology, diseases of the eye, contact lenses, low vision aids, orthopics, and community eye health are studied.
Course program involves in-class lectures as well as laboratorial practicals and clinical practice. The first three academic years consist of the basic science courses in subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and optometry. Those courses are related to the ocular anatomy, vision, optometric instruments, and geometrical and visual optics. In the third year, the entire attention is devoted to clinical training where students are supervised by the health professionals at the hospital outlets and guided in prescribing medication as well.
