Nalanda University Overview

Nalanda University is situated in Rajgir, Bihar and is inspired by the ancient city of Nalanda which was a principal way station for Buddhist learning in India from 5th to 12th century CE. The 2010 renovated Giving birth to a new Nalanda University that seeks to merge educational excellence with sustainability, awareness of the historical past, and spiritual experience. Currently the University offers the Graduate Studies Program in Historical Studies as well as the Graduate Studies Program in Ecology & Environment Studies. The Asian History Program engages the students in the historical experience of Asia and its applicability to the current society, which is concretely reflected through the courses, such as, the Rise of Asian Empires and the Evolving Artist Tradition of Asia. The Ecology & Environment program spans both natural and social sciences disciplines to take on an environmental perspective with classes like climate change policy and environmental economics. Exams are normally conducted at the beginning of December, the holiday break thereafter. Come 2024, the application process for next admission cycle will be held from the middle of 2023 to November 2023. Application is provided to the student from all over the world for these residential programs with higher tuition and living price covered by the scholarship.

Nalanda University History

- Nalanda University was an ancient Mahavihara in the region of Bihar in India and is a large amount of Buddhist monastery or learning center from 5th century to the last 12th century.

- At its height under the Gupta Empire, this was reported to be one of the first major learning institutions in the world, abounding with over 10 000 students and 2 000 teachers. It is not only the palace and its magnificence which were admired but the knowledge and styles of the time were also adopted.

- A strong program was offered by Nalanda, with the students being taught, not only, Buddhist and logical texts, but also subjects like grammar, philosophy, astronomy, medicine and politics. It was the first to create the model of the modern university, which was not typical in the Middle Ages.

- The university has hundreds of libraries that contain scripts of thousand things on various subjects such as teachings of the Buddha, philosophy, yoga, and others. 

- Xuanzang was an educated Chinese traveler and a 7th century CE scholar who studied at the famous Nalanda college. Afterward, he composed a detailed description of the college’s way of life and the education.

- The Nalanda University’s beginning was the fall of north India’s Pala Empire together with the invasion by the 12th century of Muslim Turkish, Afghan and Mughal forces. The university escaping that fate, a decade later it was demolished and destroyed in 1193 CE.

- After being abandoned for (years/centuries/decades/millennium), Nalanda University was reinvented in a brand-new format through an act of the parliament in India and it international community in 2010. The new university, scheduled to launch in 2014, surrounding the ancient site and intended to revive its spiritianity.

Nalanda University Admission Process

- The Nalanda University conducts entry examination to select students for the postgraduate programs as well as the doctoral programs that provided by this university. Proficiency in the areas of aptitude, subject matter knowledge, analytical abilities, as well as English language abilities is checked during the exams.

- Admission applications appear in January-February during all the years for the programs starting respectively in August/September. Prospective students will be able to access the application via our website from Dec 9th to Dec 15th.

- Merit-based admissions, with ranks from Board exams and seats availability, is how the institution fills in the admission scores. Confirmed candidates must undertake registration via the verification of their documents and payment of admission fees.

- Scholarships aimed at tuition fees can be at a partial or a whole are offered to deserving students and also those from marginalized backgrounds.

Nalanda University Application Procedure

1. Admission Notification

- Nalanda University announces the application dates for each year on their official website, which is usually in the month of February-March. The alert gives the user information required about the content of the programs and the dates as well.

2. Entrance Test

- For the most programs, the candidates will have to sit for an entrance examinations set by Nalanda University. There are some programs which may use other ways besides character as a basis of admitting students.

3. Application Form

- Interested persons should put in their details within the stated cut-off date through the application link provided. This entry solicits such information as academic scores, personal details etc.

4. Shortlisting 

- As for the merit list, the preliminary basis is the entrance exams and applications. Therefore, Nalanda University prepares a merit list of shortlisted candidates on the basis of these.

5. Interview

- Finally, candidate shortlisted are invited to go through a personal or a video interview session. The on-air part of the interview will also include some comments about other footage of the candidates. 

6. Final Admission List

- Taking the results of the test into consideration, Nalanda University issues the lists of admitted candidates on its website. 

7. Admission Confirmation

- The applicants who have been chosen for admissions have to go further through the confirmation phase by submitting the required documents and fees within a time frame that makes them complete their registration.
