Indira Gandhi National Open University Faculty 2024 FAQs
The minimum qualification to become an IGNOU faculty member is a Master's degree in the relevant subject. However, preference is given to candidates with a PhD or a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience after Master's degree.
The selection process involves screening of applications, an interview, and a demo lecture. The interview assesses the candidate's subject knowledge, communication skills, aptitude for teaching, and research potential. The demo lecture evaluates the candidate's teaching methodology and skills.
Key responsibilities include developing self-learning material, offering academic counselling to students, conducting induction meetings, evaluating assignments, participating in curriculum development, conducting research, and supporting regional centers.
IGNOU encourages its faculty to pursue higher studies, provides seed money for research projects, sponsors participation in conferences/seminars, promotes research publications, and offers training programs on open distance learning.
Faculty can take up additional administrative responsibilities, contribute to academic innovation and research, and grow into roles like Program Coordinator, Chairperson, Director of School, Pro Vice Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor.
