The Biomedical Laboratory Assessment Test (BLAT) is a comprehensive test developed for the purpose of assessing the capability and expertise of medical laboratory professionals. The course is thematic and explores various areas of laboratory medicine, including biochemistry, heamatology, immunology, microbiology, and many others. The BLAT test measures the knowledge regarding testing procedures, interpretation of the results, quality control, handling of the laboratory operations, and safety requirements. It is a certificate offered by the Board of Certifications for the workforce quality assurance to uphold the practice of competency in biomedical lab fields. Pearson VUE has test centers where candidates can take the BLAT. You can expect about 200 multiple choice questions to be completed within 4 hours. The results for many exams usually show up after 4-8 weeks following your exam date, and often just your overall score in each major exam while perhaps provide an exam summary. Among those, those who simply attain passing score are issued with the Board of Certification credentials, which are highly acclaimed. The testing periods for BLAT exam happens twice a year, once during the months of March – May, and again during September – November. The specific 2024 exam dates will be made available on the Board of Certification website approximately 6months in advance, and the most likely place is towards the end of 2023, for the administrative tests of the spring and fall sessions.
