The Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSC) is a 5-year undergraduate professional course that provides education in the field of veterinary medicine in India. The course programs cover the advanced knowledge of animal health, disease control, surgery, reproduction and genetics.
The BVSc curriculum is structured by credit-based lecture modules and practical/clinical training. The first 3 years will be focused on acquiring basic knowledge in science disciplines like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and veterinary principles such as pharmacy, microbiology, pathology and so on. The remaining semesters get more competitive with specialized courses offered in the fields of obstetrics, medicine, surgery, etc.
1. Finish your +2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English combinations. 50 - 60% is the aggregate mark needed depending the specific college.
2. Try to take part in NEET or state Common Entrance Test, provided by every college, to maximize your chances getting admitted to a college.
3. You must apply to universities where you’d like to get your vet degree. The application procedure requires you to fill a form, pay an application fee and attach your documents. The same may be applied to any number of colleges you desire to apply.
4. The interview/counseling process is another important step in the admission process. If you have passed all the entrance exams and have met all the eligibility requirements, you will be called for interview. In the counseling score the counseling staff prepares the merit list already based on your entrance exam marks.
5. Attend counseling for each ranking & college you are targeting. You personally rank colleges for criterion like merit, fees, hostel facilities etc. during the process of counseling. Please kindly enjoy your Confirmation Day and make this day memorable by paying the admission fees.
6. After admission, you are required to undertake your 5 year BVSc program which consists of internship last year. Ensure that all students meet a certain grade average to pass to the next grade level.
7. Once you finish your BVSc program, you have to register with the Veterinary Council of India which permits your practice as a veterinarian in India. Definitely, you should pass all the required license exams too.
