- Candidates must have a master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade.

- There is a PhD entrance exam consisting of two papers - one general aptitude test and one subject-specific test. Candidates have to score minimum marks in each paper to qualify.

- There is also an interview round where candidates' subject knowledge, research aptitude and interests are evaluated by the selection committee.

- The number of vacancies for PhD seats is limited and selection is made based on merit - taking into account the candidate's performance in the entrance exam, interview, academic background etc.

- Admission is given on performance of the candidate in the entrance examination at the university. The university conduct its own entrance exam which is called for the purpose of admission into MSc programmes.

- Eligibility for admission is with an above average pass (50% minimum or 45% for disadvantaged group) of B. Sc degree or equivalent from an approved university.

- Typically, the entrance test expects candidates to answer in subjects like general science, math, aptitude, logical reasoning, which are especially suitable for admission into the particular M.Sc program they desire.
