1. Minimum qualifying degree - The candidate should have completed a relevant master's degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates).
2. Entrance Test - Candidates will have to qualify a written entrance test conducted at the university level. This tests basic subject competency.
3. Interview - Shortlisted candidates who qualify the written entrance test will be called for a personal interview. The interview assesses the candidate's aptitude and preparedness for research.
4. Research Proposal - Candidates need to submit a brief research proposal outlining the domain area they wish to work on, tentative research questions, and methodology. This helps evaluate research potential and interest.
5. Additional Criteria - Number of attempts in the PhD entrance exam, award of fellowships like UGC/CSIR-NET, research publications etc. may be also considered while granting admissions.
6. Availability of Supervisor - Admissions are further subject to the availability and vacuum under respective guides/supervisors who will mentor the scholar.
7. Verification - Qualifying the above criteria does not guarantee admission. The selection committee of the university will comprehensively verify all academic/research credentials to decide on admissions.
1. Look up the university website or contact the department you plan to apply for further information on when the admissions for Ph.D. is received. They usually being in June/July every year.
2. Find out an experienced professor from your faculty who will give you his/her reference letter.
3. Either apply online or offline on the Ph.D portal according to the instructions. Application fee is included here, too.

5. Apply for admission and successfully complete the examination and/or interview requirements of the department.
6. Assuming that I am selected, I will then proceed with registration by presenting my payment receipt and any other documents required in the specified time.
7. Get your thesis topic approved and enroll as a Ph.D student via your department with a university.
