This Departmental Examination by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is to recruit suitable persons to the post of Stenographer Grade C and Grade D in different ministries and departments under the Government of India. The examination comprises a written test as well as skill testing in shorthand typewriter. The written test, on the other hand, is a means of assessing candidates for general intelligence, reasoning ability, social awareness, and language/English/Hindi proficiency. The candidates who are able to qualify the written test with minimum passing marks must give their stenography ability at a speed of 80 words/minute for Grade C and 100 words/minute for Grade D posts.

The exam results are drawn by encompassing both the written exam results and the scores in the skill test to finally arrive at the merit list. The proposed schedule is in line with the SSC Stenographer 2023 notification release of July 2023 followed by the computer-based written examination in September 2023. As a result, a candidate is normally informed about the outcome of the exam within 2-3 months after the written paper has been taken. The SSC Stenographer written exam is expected to be held by the month of September-October in 2024, which is for the year of recruitment 2024.
