SAIL Operator-cum Technician

The Steel Authority of India Limited Operator Cum Technician Trainee exam is conducted to recruit personnel for operator and technician positions at SAIL’s operating steel plants located across India. There are a written test portion and a skill/proficiency/physical test portion in the OCTT exam. The written examination contains questions from the general knowledge section, quantitative ability section, reasoning section, English language section, and technical ability section which is based on the knowledge of steel industry.

The aptitude test determines how mentally capable a candidate is in performing the tasks demanded by the job description. The OCTT exam is recognized as one of the favoured jobs available in the Indian public sector because of the employment guarantee, wages, incentives and other perks associated with the position. This application is normally done online every year, and it starts in January-February. The SAIL written exam is generally held in the month of April-May and the results are announced on the website of SAIL within a month. Based on the previous year’s trends, the notification for the 2024 SAIL OCTT exam is expected to come out in January 2024 followed by the written examination in April to May 2024 and the final list of merit in June 2024. The total number of vacancies are approximately 270-300 for the operator level positions and approximately 130-160 for the technician level positions in some of the SAIL plants.
