The National Institute of Design (NID) exam is the entrance prerequisite for the admissions into various undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) design courses offered at the National Institute of Design campuses in India. The NID exam focuses on the measurement of the candidate's observational skills, communication abilities, creativity and design insights via the pencil test, the studio test and the interview.
The written section of the test seeks to demonstrate an ability to understand what is presented fully, it also measures individuals' analytical, logical reasoning, design and problem identification skills. Studio test judgets categorically perception, imagination, observational skills, and showing design ideas with sketches and drawings. The interview stands for a global perception; this will require conceptual understanding, creativity, design sensitivity and feeling for aesthetics.
The outcome of the NID entrance exams written as well as studio tests are declared within a month after the exams. The initial stage consists of interviewing all the persons who have been shortlisted. The admittance is determined on the basis of the marks scored in the written exam and studio test assessments and an inter-view ranking.
The time for the NID entrance exam registration is usually between end of August to beginning of September for every year in a row.
