The Madhya Pradesh Civil Judge examination is conducted by the Madhya Pradesh High Court for the recruitment of Civil Judge (Junior Division) in state. This is one of the most sought after examination conducted by any High Court in India. The process of shortlisting the candidates involves a preliminary examination that requires candidates to answer the questions that are in a multiple choice format to assess their knowledge of the law, logical reasoning, and aptitude. The candidates who clear the prelims go for the main exam which has more of a subjective-type test which assesses candidate legal knowledge comprehensively. Cohort candidates who are finally selected, are obliged to attend the State Judicial Academy for training.
The exam is very competitive with over 50,000 candidates vying for about 100-150 seats for the various posts. The selection of the candidates is carried out from the merit list prepared by adding scores obtained in the prelims and main exams. The prelims exam was held in the month of October of 2023 and the main exam was conducted in the month of December of the same year. The ultimate decision was made in the beginning of the year in January, 2024. For 2024 exams, the notification may be expected during May-June with the prelims possibly in September-October. The number of vacancies, the pattern of exams, and the syllabi generally do not change throughout the year. Hence, after proper planning and preparation time spread over 12-18 months; this exam can be passed for becoming a Civil Judge in Madhya Pradesh.
