Candidate selection for the positions of probationary officers/management trainees (PO/MT) in Indian public sector banks is done through the Common Recruitment Process by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The IBPS PO examination is composed of 3 phases—prelims. mains and an interview. The prelims level is measured by multiple-choice questions concerning the understanding of the overall aptitude, reasoning and English language proficiency. The deserving candidates who make to the prelims have to appear for the mains exam where they are tested in greater depth in all the following topics along with some computer knowledge, data analysis/interpretation and banking/economy & finance awareness. At the last stage pickers of the group are subjected to an interview.
IBPS PO exam score is used by IBIS for preparing merit list and then ultimately banking public sector banks take decision on which candidate to be selected for vacant position. In 2023 the prelims IBPS PO exam will be conducted on 15th of October, 16th of October and 22nd of October whereas the mains exam is planned to be held on 26th of November. The preview list will be published in April 2023 and the provisional allotment list will be published in May. The announcement for the 2024 exam is expected to come out in August 2023. The prelims may be held in October 2023, but the exact dates for the exam are not known yet and can be seen on the IBPS official website. IBPS PO exam and final score most importantly decide where the bank and location of posting for recipients of the recruited Probationary Officers.
