PhD in Fashion Design is a 3-year doctoral research program which emphasizes on deep and innovative research in fashion design. Available at some design and university institutes of India, teaching covers both the theoretical and the complex and original research.

1. M.A., M.Tech. in any fashion designing field such as costume designing, or clothing manufacturing with a minimum % of 55. In addition, the fact that I possess a passed qualification UGC NET/SLET.
2. We will request for not less than two years of work experience within the fashion and clothing sector or a full-time lectureship position in a fashion institute after getting my postgraduate degree. This is proof that they are a solid candidate for the research project.
3. It is necessary to prepare a comprehensive portfolio which with examples of fashion design work that are beyond sketches, fabric swatches, images of clothing made and handled in the fashion shootings are essential for creativity valuation and assessment.
4. That the entrance test to the university or institute where they want to study Ph.D is passed by all candidates is a necessity. This test is used to check for the aptitude, understanding and researching method of the candidate.
5. Such candidates who have published their works in acclaimed journals and presented their papers in prestigious conferences hold the first priority during the selection of suitable applicants.
6. On the contrary, an interview would be the best option to evaluate the commitment of the applicants and determine whether they have understood the needed knowledge and skills.
GRE (Graduate Record Examination): It assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning as well as analytical writing skills. Preferred by the great majority of universities for admission.
Portfolio Review: Examines the level of creativity, originality and technical skills of applicants via a set of their previous design works, sketches and projects.
Written Statement or Essay: Requires students to demonstrate their research interests, career goals and reasons to apply for PhD in Fashion Design.
Interview: Evaluates candidates' knowledge, experience, and their fit for doctoral study in fashion design. Such include topics like research interests, academic background, and future goals.
