MPhil (Master of Philosophy) in Forestry is a postgraduate research-centered academic course offered in India with the major focus on research and advance academic study in forest science, management, and conservation. The shortest period of study in our MPhil Forestry course is two years of full-time study. 

The program is composed of an array of advanced courses in silviculture, forest ecology, forest hydrology, forest genetics and tree improvement, forest soils, forest pathology, forest entomology, forest management, wildlife biology, biodiversity conservation, natural resource economics, and research methodology.

Independent research project, a dissertation submissions that are relevant with the forestry field are required by the course criteria from the students. The research objective is to make new findings and provide new solutions, which extend the horizons of the science and practice in the field of forestry.

MPhil Forestry Admission 2024

1. Check the criteria set up by the university you are applying to, including attendance to a graduate program in forestry or related areas with the minimum percentage asked for. Make sure you meet all the conditions applicable for application beforehand.

2. Do an analysis to identify the line of specialization in MPhil Forestry that is available in your target schools. Out of these pick a term that you like such as forest management or forest biology or wildlife conservation etc. 

3. Train for the entry test if it is required. Some agencies often do their own test of the candidates.

4. Fill the online or offline form accordingly as indicated. Do not forget to submit the required documents such as degree certificate, experience letter and proposal. Finish all the formalities, deposit the fees and register.

5. If you are successful in the interview, you will be invited for the second round of personal interview conducted by the admission panel to assess your academic record, knowledge for the subject, capability for the research and your interest area. 

6. If one is preferred, pay the full fees and confirm the admission. Hand in the required or listed paperwork on or before the specified date to enroll for the program. Participate in orientation and begin your MPhil studies.

MPhil Forestry Course Eligibility 2024

1. A candidate needs to have a bachelor's degree in forestry (or equivalent in allied subjects e.g. environmental science, ecology and botany) with an aggregate marks of at least 55%.

2. Engineering, life sciences, agriculture, veterinary sciences, cleaver with 60% aggregate marks bachelors degree. Certain institutions apply a valid GATE or NET score as their prerequisite rule. 

3. Candidate from tribal communities or candidates holding a bachelor's degree from a tribal university do not matter, as they are subjected to the relaxations of the minimum percentage by 5%.

4. Graduates in these respective government departments in the field of forests, wildlife or environment, for instance, may be viewed as eligible candidates by certain institutes. 

5. It is going to be mandatory for the candidate to prepare a research proposal and send it in together with the application form. 

6. One can secure his/her seat in the program by virtue of his/her academic achievements, research work proposal and again by appearing the entrance exam as well as the interview conducted by the institute.

M.Phil Forestry Entrance Exams

ICFRE Entrance Exam: Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) conducts an entrance exam, which evaluates the level of forestry related concepts, research method techniques and environmental science of the candidates.

GATE (Life Sciences): The Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (Life Sciences) tests the knowledge of the candidates on life sciences concepts, including forestry topics.

University-specific Entrance Exams: Used to determine students' knowledge and abilities in Forestry and related subjects, multiple universities having MPhil courses in Forestry conduct their entrance exams.

CSIR NET (Life Sciences): The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (Life Science) candidates on their knowledge in life science topics such as forestry and environmental science.

State Forestry Department Exams: Some state departments of forestry can do entry exams for the MPhil program in Forestry where they consider mainly local forestry issues and conservation practices.
