The Bachelor of Veterinary Science in Animal Genetics and Breeding (BVSc) is a 4 & 1/2 years undergraduate crash program, which is specially designed to offer in-depth study on the genetics, breeding, and reproduction of farm animals such as cattle and buffaloes, poultry birds, sheep, goats, and pigs.

The curriculum includes courses in genetics, animal breeding, reproduction, biotechnology, statistics, animal nutrition, livestock production, and animal husbandry. In this class students learn the methods like embryo transfers, semen analysis and advanced reproductive techniques. There is also a focus on population genetics, quantitative genetics, molecular genetics, cytogenetics, genetic disorders, and the basics of genomics and bioinformatics as applied to livestock improvement.

BVSc Animal Genetics & Breeding Admission Process

2. Admission is through entrance exams like ICAR AIEEA, state common entrance tests etc.

6. Program duration is 5 years including 1 year internship.

BVSc Animal Genetics & Breeding Eligibility

1. Educational Qualification: Candidate's result should be 10+2 or equivalent with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English 50% aggregate marks with examinations from recognized board.

2. Minimum Age: Candidates should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. Everyone, of any age, will be able to join the program.

3. Admission Test: Candidates have to qualify in the national level veterinary entrance exams like NEET, AIPVT, or state-level entrance exams for admission to colleges. Others, on the other hand, have various tests for admission.

4. Physical Fitness: Candidates should be physically fit and should not have any disability or infectious disease. The said medical certificate of physical fitness obtained from licensed physician would be required for the completion of the courses in some training schools.

5. Number of Attempts: Some colleges restrict the number of attempts a candidate can make to clear the entrance exams for BVSc admission. The differences in age limits are more reflected in case of colleges compared to schools.

ICAR AIEEA: The ICAR All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA) assesses candidates' knowledge of animal genetics and breeding, including principles of inheritance, genetic diversity, breeding techniques, and genomic selection for livestock improvement.
