The Bachelor of Medical and Dental Sciences (BDS) which is the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is a 5-year course including rotation year of internship. The course is designed to offer highly specialized training to equip the surgeons with the necessary skills to diagnose, perform surgical procedures on ailments, injuries, and aesthetic issues of the mandible and face.

1. Finish the 5-year BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) program which is after 12 years of studying. This helps the student build confident steps as they advance in their dentistry.

2. University's opportunities for work experience should be utilized. Get at least 1 year of experience in dental field, that may be realized through internships or professional work. This builds practical skills. 

3. Say yes to NEET-MDS, which is a postgraduate entrance exam; you can qualify for Dental Surgery programs, Oral and Oral Maxillofacial programs. Tests that suit different schools but do not have the same meaning.

4. MDS programs which are 3 years long can be opted for from the given choices. As seats are limited number, aim high and get good BDS final year and entrance scores. 

5. Focus on the subjects like anatomy, pathology, radiology, and dentistry during BDS and give utmost importance to examinations pertaining to postgraduate entrance tests. Through this acquisition of knowledge, a solid fundamental level of learning is created and paves the way toward the master's study.

6. Grow up with small limb dexterity, hard-to-concentrate-work, kindness toward clients and dentistry cure-interests. They are the elements that build a surgeon in maxillofacial branch.
