A civil judge selection process for the districts of Delhi is conducted by the Delhi High Court through the Delhi Judicial Services Examination (DJS). This is one of the most competitive and coveted judiciary service exams in India. The DJS exam has a preliminary assessment in the form of a written examination and an interview. The preliminary phase of the exam is conducted on general knowledge, aptitude, reasoning ability and English level. Those who qualify the preliminary exam will appear for the main exam which consists of other law subjects such as Civil Procedure Code, Indian Penal Code, Evidence Act among others which are multi-choice and descriptive questions.
The final recruitment list is drawn from marking of the written main examinations and interview marks. In 2022, approximately 700 contestants passed the mains exams; of these candidates, 218 have been appointed on the criteria of interview performance till now. The DJS exam is set to be conducted in 2024 and the expected dates are September-October 2024. A vacancy announcement and exact dates of the exam will be communicated through the official notice 6 months before the exam date on the website of Delhi High Court and the leading newspapers. The bar exam, which leads every year law school graduates with its high reputation, is an indispensable part of the career of legal professionals.
