PGDCL or Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Law is a 1 year full time postgraduate course that deals with various corporate laws in India. Some of the areas of law included in this course are company law, corporate governance, securities and exchange control law, foreign exchange laws, mergers and acquisitions, the bankruptcy code and banking regulations among others. Duration of PGDCL course is normally one year but it can be semester system that is split into two or three semesters. The admission criteria for this course are as follows: The candidate must have obtained a bachelor’s degree in any field of specialization be it science, arts, commerce or any other field from any recognized university.
For admission in PGDCL there is no entrance test as such but to be on the safer side they prepare for any entrance examination. Open through cutoff marks of the previous class or percentage scored in the final examination. Certain institutes also take into account score obtained in Common Admission Test (CAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) or the All India Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) for the PGDCL course. These include family background, work experience, among others, which are also considered when offering admissions in some of the colleges. NLU Delhi, NLU Jodhpur and many other national law universities provide admission in the PGDCL course with CLAT score as a criteria. Unlike most other courses, very few institutes have their entrance examination for offering admissions to this post graduate diploma in corporate laws.
