The MTech in Thermal Power Engineering program is a 2-year advance course of study where students learn about the source of generating electric power through thermal energy sources such as coal and other fossil fuels. During the program, students will acquire a range of skills including operating boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines and other heat exchangers.
The course curricula includes a number of courses, including Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Power Plant Engineering, Energy Conversion Systems, Instrumentation and Control systems, Power Plant System Dynamics, Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Auditing, Environmental Engineering and others. A student is able to gain knowledge on different thermal power generation technologies, PERT (Project Evaluation and Review Technique), simulation tools, optimization methods, research, and techno-economic analysis.
1. Educational Qualification
- B.E/B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical engineering/Electrical engineering/Chemical/Energy is required, with minimum 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).
2. Entrance Exams
- Our platform GATE score is necessary. Candidates must be in possession of a valid GATE score in the relevant area of specialization..
- While some institutes may choose to the NUP/UGC-NET scores, there could also be others that would conduct their own entrance examinations.
3. Application Process
- Visit institute websites for a procedure update, forthcoming dates and apologize if necessary documents are missing.
- Fill up the application form either online/offline taking care of all the documents and enclosure fees along with the form.
4. Selection Process
- Candidates whose scores on entrance exams and academic records rose the most are shortlisted.
- Final selection ends with result of the school entrance test, interview, or group discussion which are conducted by the institutes themselves.
5. Program Duration
- M.Tech (Thermal Power Engineering) is a program of the period two years and of the full-time character.
6. Fee Structure
- The scale of fee varies between INR 50,000 to INR 3 lakhs annually but is adjusted according to the particular institute.
