Diploma in Yoga is a one to two years diploma level course, which is entirely based to train students in all the aspects of Yoga to become yoga teachers. These components involve philosophy and history of yoga, yoga postures or asanas, breath control mechanisms or pranayama, meditation, and yogic lifestyle, anatomy, physiology, and yoga therapy. Course content entails the students to be provided with a good theoretical background combined with practical hands-on experience for teaching yoga sessions both to normal individuals and people with certain health issues. The program prepares trainees for becoming a professional yoga teacher and launch their career independently practicing as a yoga instructor in schools, fitness centers, spas, or opening their own studio. There are also numerous institutions that offer part-time diploma programs that take approximately between 1-2 years for those who are already employed.
As with most of the diploma courses, there are no entrance examinations for admission to Diploma in Yoga programs, thus the admission might be done based on aptitude test/interviews. There is no fixed requirement of any standard examination but the candidate should have passed 10+2 from any recognized board. But there are some colleges who conduct their own written test that would measure the candidate’s interest, inclination and capability of taking up the program. Some institutes also have the course criterion that the applicant must have studied biology as one of the subjects in the 10+2 level because good grounding in human anatomy and physiology is necessary to grasp the concepts of yoga therapy. The qualified exam in combination with the interview helps to select the number of candidates for a given number of seats.
