- Admission will be mainly based on the entrance test of Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). This is a state-level test which is apost to medical, engineering,... etc admissions in Karnataka.
- Other than KCET scores, the candidates must have the certification of 10+2 or equivalent examination with compulsory subjects Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects.
- Again, minimum marks are required in the entrance test (10+2) - 45% for general category and 40% for the SC, ST applicants.
- Some seats are allocated through the COMEDK exam, a national level entrance test, conducted for undergraduate engineering admission in Karnataka.
- Seats too are filled through the management and NRI quotas; however, they meet different selection criteria.
- Each category and route has particular admission criterion in KCET/COMEDK, where the candidates with a higher merit receive higher preference while applying and choosing a college.

- Eligibility for the M.Tech programs will be done by scores of in the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam. The eligible candidates are the ones who have their hands on GATE score.
- Further to GATE scores, people will also have to comply with a series of conditions drafted by VTU and specifying they should hold a B.E./B.Tech degree with a particular minimum percentage of marks.
- Specifically, Bachelor level courses in the related field are added to the requirements for some of M.Tech specializations.
- VTU produces the rankings of the applicants as per their GATE scores and fills the available seats by making the allotments as per their reservation norms.
- Aggregate percentage in B.E/B.Tech exams will break a tie between the two candidates if scores are tied.
- Few seats are also available through the branching of sponsored and part time categories under which working professionals could also apply alongside the work experience stipulation.
- The other direct admissions to SC/ST Category candidates are exempted from the requirement GATE qualification in case of any suitable vacancies after allotment of regular candidates.
Eligibility:
- Candidates should have a Master degree in the relevant field with a minimum aggregate score of 55% or equivalent CGPA. Reserved categories will stay calm as per norm.
- Obtaining a position in the VTU Doctorate Entrance Test (VPET), which is an assessment of research skills, subject understanding, and communication.

- Attend the Visualizing and Promoting Energy Transition (VPET) which runs twice a year.

- A master's degree in engineering/technology or an equivalent qualification must have a minimum 60% aggregate marks(SC/ST candidates have to score 55%).
