Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) is a public institution which engages in engineering and research activities and is situated in Nagpur, Maharashtra. In 1960, VRCE was inaugurated at its birth place, VNIT. In 2002 it was conferred the status of the NIT. VNIT is included in the ranks of National Institutes of Importance that are approved by the Government of India as an equivalent.
VNIT has the programs which are in the forms of undergraduate and postgraduate courses spread in almost all the engineering disciplines which are computer science, electronics, electrical, and mechanical, civil and chemical engineering , and others. Programs such as B.Tech (Computer Science) and M.Tech (Structural Engineering) are some of the raged courses schedulled at VNIT. In the semester plan, exams are held in the November-December and April-May every year. The institute conducts them in the end semester.
Admission process to B.Tech at VNIT is eligibility of a student for JEE Main exam. He or she is selected after counseling. The graduated candidates required to pass the GATE examination to pursue M.Tech program. The registration process for B.Tech admissions to the next as academic year of 2024-2025 is due to be starting in September 2023. Admission test at VNIT may be performed for the shortlisting candidates from the first round till final counseling round as observed in the preceding year. The VNIT CoE as a whole can accommodate a total of 1200 students across its various B.Tech programs.

- Admissions into postgraduate and undergraduate programs offered in VNIT are largely merit-based; assessment of one's performance in state or national-level entrance exams is considered the primary criteria for selection. Regularly conduct exams like JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, GATE as well as etc are the local exams organized.
- At the undergrad level our students need a combination of physics, chemistry and mathematics subjects. For the different programs, cut-off marks are set each year or so according to factors like no of seats, difficulty of the exam, applicant pool, etc.
- Applicants who are looking to pursue postgraduate courses are usually expected to at least have a relevant bachelor's degree and some programs might have entrance requirements such as percentage limits which vary among departments. The preference process involves shortlisting candidates for certain majors on the basis of their entrance exam scores/grades in bachelor’s courses.
- To ensure that we also have some visibility at the state level, VNIT has some seats held aside for candidates from within the state of Nagpur/Maharashtra too. Usually the cut-off for these seats which come under the SD Category, is slightly lower than the rest of the state quota.
- After selection, the candidates go through the counseling session which has the following stages: filling out choices form, security allocation and document verification based on their entrance rank.
- The allotment is actually linked to the student's choices/preferences, rank and place for seats in the specific subject at that moment. The higher the position in the line the rigger, the higher the consideration in allocating seats.
