The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2024 results were announced by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur on March 16th, 2024. This year, over 9.2 lakh candidates appeared for the GATE exam that was conducted from February 4th to 12th, 2024 in two sessions per day across 200 cities in India. The overall qualifying cutoff for GATE 2024 stood at 28.9 out of 100, with qualifying marks varying across different paper codes and categories. The paper-wise cutoff marks saw a marginal increase of 1-2 marks for most papers compared to GATE 2023. Over 1.8 lakh candidates cleared the exam this year which amounts to a total qualification rate of around 21%.
In terms of individual performances, Shivam Sharma from IIT Delhi secured the All India Rank 1 by scoring 95 out of 100 marks in the Mechanical Engineering paper. The topper list indicates a high number of IIT and NIT students scoring within the top 20 ranks. Over 22,000 candidates scored above 90 percentile marks this year reflecting tough competition. Key statistics also indicate improved performances by female candidates and those from rural engineering colleges across India.
